Couples Therapy

When You Keep Having Different Versions of the Same Fight
Sometimes couples know exactly what went wrong. Other times, it’s harder to pinpoint.
You may be arguing about the same things over and over. Communication has become tense or defensive. You feel more like roommates than partners. Trust has been damaged. Resentment has accumulated. A major life change has shifted the relationship. Or maybe you still love each other very much and simply don’t know how to get out of the pattern you’ve fallen into.
Couples therapy gives us a place to slow things down and understand what’s actually happening between you, not just who said what during the last argument.
IT’S NOT ABOUT DECIDING WHO’S RIGHT
I’m not here to take sides or decide which partner is the problem.
Instead, we’ll look at the patterns that develop between you: how you communicate, what happens when conflict begins, what each of you needs, where you stop hearing one another, and what may be underneath the reactions you see on the surface.
Sometimes that means learning better ways to communicate or manage conflict. Sometimes it means rebuilding emotional or physical connection. Sometimes there has been a significant rupture, such as infidelity, and the work involves understanding what happened and determining whether and how trust can be rebuilt.
And sometimes couples come to therapy because they’re facing an important decision about the future of their relationship.
There’s room for those conversations too.

MY APPROACH TO COUPLES THERAPY
I bring the same warmth, curiosity, and straightforwardness to couples therapy that I bring to my individual work.
I incorporate principles and tools from the Gottman Method along with other approaches based on the needs of each couple. We may work on communication and practical relationship skills, but we’ll also pay attention to what’s happening underneath the conflict.
Because sometimes the argument isn’t really about the dishes, the text message, the schedule, or whatever started it.
Understanding the pattern underneath the argument can help you respond to each other differently.
My role isn’t to tell you what your relationship should look like. It’s to help both of you understand what’s happening between you, communicate more honestly and effectively, and make thoughtful decisions about what comes next.
You Don’t Have to Wait Until Your Relationship Is in Crisis.
Whether you’re trying to repair something painful, reconnect after a difficult season, or understand patterns you haven’t been able to change on your own, we can start with a conversation.
